
After Class: How to Apply For Your MN Permit to Carry
Once you’ve completed your Minnesota Permit to Carry class and received your certificate of completion, you must apply in person at the sheriff’s office in your county of residence. Non-residents of Minnesota may apply at any county sheriff’s office. See the instructions below for guidance on how to apply.
What You Need to Apply
1. Certificate of Completion: To receive your certificate of completion, you must first complete the required classroom instruction and live fire qualification. Your instructor will issue the certificate after you successfully complete the live fire portion.
2. Application: You must complete the Minnesota Permit to Carry a Pistol Application and submit it in person at your county sheriff’s office. Some county sheriff’s offices may provide printed copies of the application on-site.
3. Apply In Person: With your certificate of completion and completed application, you must apply in person at the sheriff’s office in your county of residence. Non-residents of Minnesota may apply at any county sheriff’s office. Visit your county sheriff’s website for specific application details, as an appointment may be required.
